Tip: pROPER MAINTENANCE OF YOUR TYRES
Tyres benefit from regular maintenance to ensure they last longer, perform better, and keep you safe. Here are some general tyre maintenance tips to ensure your tyre perform at the best.
1. Check Tyre Pressure Regularly:
- Why? Incorrect tyre pressure can lead to uneven wear, reduced fuel efficiency, and compromised safety.
- Tip: Check tyre pressure at least once a month and before long trips. Always do this when the tyres are cold for accurate readings.
- Ideal Pressure: Refer to your vehicle’s manual or the tyre sidewall for the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch).
2. Ensure Proper Wheel Alignment:
- Why? Misalignment can cause uneven tyre wear, leading to a shorter lifespan and poor vehicle handling.
- Tip: Have your wheel alignment checked annually or if you notice steering issues like pulling to one side, your steering wheel is not centred, or you are experiencing uneven tyre wear.
3. Balance And Rotate Your Tyres:
- Why? Unbalanced tyres can lead to vibrations, reduced performance, and uneven wear.
- Tip: Have your tyre rotated every 10,000 km to ensure even wear, as well as balanced to maintain a smooth ride.
4. Inspect Tread Depth Regularly:
- Why? Shallow tread depth can reduce traction, especially on wet roads.
- Tip: Take notice of your tyres every time you wash it. Look for uneven wear and ensure they still have a legal amount of tread.
- Minimum tread depth: Generally, when the tread depth is 2mm or lower, it’s time to replace the tyres.
5. Inspect for Damage:
- Why? Stones, nails, or sharp objects can cause punctures or tyre damage.
- Tip: Regularly inspect the tyres for cuts, or foreign objects embedded in the tread.
